How to Book your Test
Theory Test
Booking your theory test is relatively straightforward and they seem to have them available most weeks.
You need a theory test pass before you can book your practical so this is important to get quickly.
Book via Gov website here.
Do Not Panic!, you have a lot of time, carefully read and understand how to work the computer first.
Work through each answer and those you are unsure of leave and come back to at the end of the test, you will have relaxed and have more time then.
If your not sure how to approach the hazard perception test, please try to use the 3 click rule.
Practical Test
Currently to book a Practical test is taking a little time. Students are reporting back to me that no tests are shown as available when they try to book.
The best advise is keep trying the DVSA website.
From May 12th 2026, it is illegal for anyone other than the Student to boom the Test. Please check current position with DVSA.

Swapping Tests
Another possibility for securing an earlier test is swapping your own test date with another student.
An example of how it works, say student A has a test booked for May 05th but can not make that date. Student B has a test booked for July 20th.
Student B is looking for an earlier test date, it may be possible for the two to swap their tests and then both keep a test date without fear of losing it.
Occasionally I have this situation develop within my active students, please let me know if you are interested in a swap date and I will always try to facilitate if I can.
From June 09th 2026, Legal changes were brought in, these include:
- Only two Swaps per Student – after this you must cancel and start again.
- You can only Swap a Test centre within 5 Miles of the Original Test booking
